The Pomeranian

Pomeranian puppy faces can be doll-like or even fox-like. The dog has a double layer coat of full, thick fur. The coat an be a single color such as white or sable, or may be multi-colored or parti-colored. Pomeranians will grow as an adult up to between eight and eleven inches in height and between three and seven pounds for weight. The upside-down triangle head and pointed ears give this breed a fox-like look.

Pomeranian puppies need discipline starting at an early age because this breed has a willful and demanding temperament and requires a strong hand. Pomeranians are also well known as being affectionate, very energetic, curious and smart. With a double coat of fur they will need brushing at least twice a week, but only occasional baths in order to retain the dog's essential oils. Pomeranians tend to suffer loss of teeth, so regular brushing is required using a baby toothbrush at least once a week.

The Pomeranian has a strong, high maintenance personality which requires that owners of this breed obtain training for their pet as a puppy. Buyers seeking Pomeranian puppies should purchase dogs only from breeders with excellent reputations who take care to provide socialization, training and stimulation to their puppies. Avoid ever purchasing a puppy from a pet store. Usually pet stores take in shipments of dogs and other animals as if they are any other type of merchandise, failing to give puppies the attention and care they need compared to the care they received when they are raised by a professional breeder.

A Pomeranian's temperament and appearance might be considered when choosing a name. Owners sometimes select and name that is the opposite the dog's actual traits. Since Pomeranians are toy group dogs, some owners will select names such as Goliath, Bear or Machine as a bit of a contradiction.

These dogs can be known for their periodic barking, and for being high-maintenance and energetic so names like Whisper or Sleepy can be fun options. It is very important to remember when choosing a name for a Pomeranian that she or he will probably have quite a long life, so owners should know they have to choose a name that will match their dog for years to come.

Spend time researching Pomeranian puppies before purchasing this dog. Buyers can also ask breeders any questions regarding the breed from characteristics and grooming, to training and discipline, or health care and whelping. Good breeders will offer documentation showing a Pomeranian puppy's pedigree and overall health. A pedigree shows the names of both the sire (father) and dam (mother. There will likely be champion names within the puppy's ancestry. Buyers might also ask for specific advice about names for their new Pomeranian.

A truly adorable toy breed is the Pomeranian. This small dog is a member of the Spitz group. The Pomeranian ancestors were sled dogs from near or in Iceland. During the late 1800s some larger, stronger sled dogs were bred to toy size. Pomeranians, bred down from the German Spitz, are a good example.
