This dog was bred in Germany and is likely a cross between an Italian Greyhound and a Dachshund. Originally, they were bred to kill rats in horse stables.

They have a well-proportioned body, which is compact, square and muscular. The Miniature Pinscher also has a high step that can be irresistible. their eyes are oval and are dark and bright. They have a short, smooth coat, which usually appears in black, brown, blue chocolate, red, or a combination of these.

The Miniature Pinscher has a sunny disposition and can be an intelligent and charming companion. Also known as Mini-Pins, they are a very energetic small breeds. The Miniature Pinscher first and foremost seeks to please its handler, friend or owner, and will jump through hoops to prove it.

These small dogs are usually about 10 to 12 inches tall and weigh 8 to 10 pounds.

Because of their short hair, Miniature Pinschers are simple to groom. Simply brush them using a firm bristle brush and give them a bath only when needed. Is it also easy to use a warm, slightly damp washcloth to wash loose hair. This dog is an average shedder. Check their teeth regularly, and brush as well. The toenails can be cut every other weeks. This dog does not need protection from the cold.

Some of the best qualities of these dogs also make them good pets include traits of being lively, playful, self-assured, intelligent and alert. This fun-loving dog can make an excellent family pet as well as companion for adults. They can sometimes be aggressive but are usually very good with children if they are not teased.

These dogs however cannot handle the usually rough and tumble play which children engage in, as the dogs are not strong enough. They can do very well with older children. The Miniature Pinscher prefers being around people and does not like being left alone for any length of time. They are highly loyal to their owners, and will snuggle with them and like to sleep on the bed. They can sometimes get aggressive with other dogs but usually are find with other types of family pets.

The Miniature Pinscher should have training with other people and dogs in order to be properly socialized. This breed will learn to obey easily and fast, because they seek to please. When trained and socialized well, they exhibit a playful, outgoing personality and are wonderful pets. Because of their high energy, they don't easily get worn out as with other toy breeds. They need their play and exercise daily. Whether you live in the city or the country, be sure to take them for long walks.

The miniature pinscher likes to bark, and has a big bark for such a little dog. Often the barking is the result of the dog being bored or lonely. It's a good idea for an owner to have experienced raising and training dogs to manage this breed well.
